Useful - yes. IMHO, anything that shifts work from the user to the command is a good thing.
(BTW what's with the "crazies"?)

Haha sorry just having some fun :), 'brainstorming' or 'ideas' would be a more appropriate tag haha..
As for the use-case for regexp matching I am having a hard time thinking of what this would really be useful for, but may be interesting to add
